John F. Kennedy High School

Having originally opened in 1959 as Tumon Senior-Junior High School, John F. Kennedy is a top-ranked school that serves grade 9 to 12 students from Tamuning Hagåtña, and portions of Dededo. JFK High welcomes approximately 1,880 students annually, who are from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. 

Students who attend John F. Kennedy High School enjoy the opportunity they have to enroll in a number of different College, Career and Life Courses. These courses aim to align with students’ future goals and can range from Air Force, Fine Arts, Business Education, Physical Education and Family & Consumer Sciences. 

The school also allows students to enroll in Career & Technical Education programs which are offered by Guam Community College. These programs consist of options such as Marketing, Nursing, Chemistry, and Marine Biology, among many others. 

AP courses available at JFK High School are available and allow students to earn college credit and/or qualify for more advanced classes when beginning college. These courses include World History, Calculus AB, English Language and Composition, Statistics and Chemistry.

Okkodo High School

Okkodo High School

Located in the island’s most populated village, Dededo is Okkodo High School. The school was first opened in August of 2008 and became the fifth high school under the Guam Department of Education. There are just over 1,600 students who attend the highly ranked public high school from grades 9 to 12. 

Students who attend Okkodo High School are required to complete a total of 24 credits and 75 hours of service learning in order to successfully graduate. The school offers students the opportunity to follow career paths or college paths. 

Honors and AP courses are available and include options such as Chemistry Honors, Physics Honors, AP United States History and AP Calculus. For students who are on the Career Path, they are required to take a career and technical education course. These courses are offered through the Guam Community College and include Automotive Services, Marketing, Carpentry and Tourism. 

Though Okkodo High School places a heavy emphasis on academic excellence, the school also offers a well-rounded education through the many extracurricular and enrichment programs. Okkodo High participates in the Guam Department of Education Interscholastic Sports Association. Students can choose to participate in teams such as volleyball, golf, tennis, baseball and basketball. 

The Clubs and Activities are also diverse and students enjoy gathering with like-minded individuals. Father Duenas Memorial School

Father Duenas Memorial High School

Located in the village of Chalan-Pago, Father Duenas Memorial School was founded in 1948 by Rev. Apollinaris W. Baumgartner. The school was named for Father Jesus Baza Dueñas, a Chamorro priest who was beheaded by Japanese forces during World War II and originally a seminary. Later, the school became a University Preparatory School. 

Father Duenas Memorial offers students an extensive course list to choose from. The school also offers a four-year program for college preparatory courses as well as AP courses which allow students to earn college credits. 

Academic excellence is a top priority at Father Duenas Memorial and students enjoy competing in a number of academic competitions which include the American Mathematics Competition, Academic Challenge Bowl, Mock Trial, and the National Forensic League.

Though a private school, FDMS is part of the island’s Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam (IIAAG) sports for boys. Sports offered at Father Duenas Memorial include golf, basketball, football, soccer, paddling and wrestling.

Tiyan High School

Tiyan High School

Founded in 2014 Tiyan High School serves students from many areas including students from Adelup, Anigua, Barrigada, Barrigada Heights, Hagåtña, Las Palmas, Macheche, Maina, Maite, Mogfog, Mongmong, Tiyan, and Toto.

Tiyan High School is a well-rated school and falls under the jurisdiction of the Guam Department of Education. Students are supported in their endeavors while pursuing excellence in academics, sports, arts and personal development. 

There are only just over 1,100 students to attend Tiyan High School making it the smallest of the six schools in the department when considering the student population. The school is a diverse center that caters to students from many different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. 

Tiyan High School prides itself on a number of different programs which are offered to students. These programs include: 

AFJROTC is an air force program that aims at developing citizens of character who are dedicated to serving their nation and community. Not a recruitment program, AFJROTC doesn’t require any commitment to join the military, however uses the program as a way to train students in citizenship, promote community service, instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline.

The Dual Enrollment Program, which is in partnership with the University of Guam and Guam Community College, allows high school students to enroll in college courses and receive both high school and college credits. The school also provides AP Courses and Honors options as well. 

For students who are interested in joining the workplace immediately after graduation, the Career and Technical Education courses allow for hands-on learning opportunities. Classes include Automotive, Carpentry, Lodging and Management, Marketing and Visual Communications. 

Sports, clubs and activities are available at Tiyan and enrich students’ time in high school. From soccer to volleyball, basketball and more, Tiyan High School participates in the island’s Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam (IIAAG).

St. John’s School

St. John's School  

St. John’s School is a private, College Preparatory school that was founded in 1962. There are just under 500 students who attend the school that offers education to students from Pre-K 3 to Grade 12. Spanning 17 acres, SJS is located in Tumon, near the spectacular Tumon Bay. 

The school has been accredited by the Western Associate of Schools and Colleges and is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of College Admissions Counselors. The top-rated private Christian School is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to provide the IBO Diploma.

Students who attend St. John’s School routinely test considerably higher on their ACT’s and SAT’s and many go on to attend some of the U.S.’s top colleges and universities. Out of the 500 students or so who attend SJS, about 190 are in the high school section. The school employs 91 full-time teachers which provide students with an average student-to-teacher ratio of just 9:1. 

Students in the Upper School portion of SJS are offered the standard high school curriculum along with additional programs such as AP Classes and the International Baccalaureate Programs. These nationally recognized courses allow all students to earn both high school and university credits.

Guam High School

Guam High School

Guam High School is a U.S. Military operated secondary school that is located in Agana Heights. The school is considered part of the Department of Defense Education Activity and serves the children of Military personnel who are stationed in Guam. The school opened its doors in the fall of 1997. 

There are just over 500 students who attend Guam High School from grades 9 to 12. The school employs forty-six teachers which allow for a lower than average student-to-teacher ratio of just 1 to 15. Though not governed by the Guam Department of Education, Guam High School adopted the mandate for uniforms which was implemented in 2007. 

The mission of Guam High School is to educate, engage and empower each student in hopes that they will be able to reach their highest potential in all areas of life. The school is fully accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and AdvancEd.

Along with the extensive and rigorous curriculum provided by Guam High School, students can also take advantage of the DoDEA programs which include Special Education, AVID, English as a Second Language and Gifted Education. 

Guam High School offers plenty of options for students to participate in after-school activities and programs. Sports teams offered at Guam High School include baseball, basketball, football, tennis, soccer, paddling and golf.
