Learn about homes for sale in Umatac, Guam
Umatac has one of the richest histories of any village on Guam. It is a historically important site for the Chamorro People, as Umatac is home to Fouha Bay and the Fouha Rock. The Chamorro believe that the goddess Fu’una created the world and the people in it. Fouha Rock, also called Creation Point, was an annual pilgrimage site where the ancient people came to pay homage to the goddess.
If that wasn’t enough, Umatac is also regarded as the site where Ferdinand Magellan first landed on Guam. Discovery Day is held every year in Umatac to commemorate this landing. Later, the Spaniard Miguel López de Legazpi arrived in Umatac and eventually claimed Guam for Spain.
Today Umatac is a small coastal village along Highway 2 between Agat and Merizo. It is a small community with quaint village charm. Many homes have been built in the hills, affording their owners spectacular views of Fouha Bay. Cetti Bay is also part of Umatac. With its more rural location, residents enjoy hiking in the hills and visiting local points of interest like the Fouha Rock Trailhead, Dennis Falls, Fort Soledad, and the ruins of Fort Santo Angel.
Like Merizo to the south, it can sometimes be hard to find real estate for sale or for rent in the area.
